Professor Milos R. Popovic Named Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada

Professor Milos R. Popovic has been named a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC). He is one of 23 distinguished engineers selected this year for their outstanding contributions to the engineering profession and their service to society.

The EIC, founded in 1887, is a federation of 14 Canadian engineering societies representing over 30,000 engineers and students. Each year, the organization honors exceptional professionals from academia and industry who exemplify engineering excellence. The 2025 EIC Awards Gala will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Hilton Lac-Leamy Hotel in Gatineau-Ottawa, Quebec, to celebrate these achievements.

Professor Popovic is the Director and tenured Professor at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto, and also the Director of KITE, the research arm of the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute – University Health Network. He is renowned for his pioneering research in neuro-rehabilitation, neuromodulation, and neuroprostheses, which has transformed the lives of individuals with spinal cord injuries and other neurological conditions.

Over his career, Dr. Popovic has founded or co-founded several impactful initiatives, including:

  • MyndTec, a leader in innovative medical technology.
  • The Centre for Advancing Neurotechnological Innovation to Application (CRANIA).
  • The CRANIA Neuromodulation Institute at the University of Toronto.
  • The Canadian Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Association.
  • The Fabric-Based Research (FIBRE) Platform and the Rehabilitation Engineering Laboratory at KITE.
