“Robert M. Nerem of Georgia Institute of Technology who passed away last Friday may be a familiar name to many in the IBBME community. Bob had a critical role in the founding of our Institute. He was a site visitor at the time of the merger in 1999 of the Institute for Biomedical Engineering and the Centre for Biomaterials to create IBBME. As a site visitor, Robert recommended that the University add several new positions to our faculty. The University adopted this recommendation and we hired Warren Chan and Milos R. Popovic among others. We would not have been as successful without Robert’s vision and his affable forcefulness to make the Deans and Provost go along with his recommendation.” –
