The Institute of Biomedical Engineering (BME) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. Craig Simmons as its Associate Director of Scientific Research. Dr. Simmons, a distinguished and accomplished researcher, is set to lead BME’s strategic initiatives in elevating research excellence and fostering a culture of innovation within the realm of biomedical engineering.

In his new role, Dr. Simmons will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of research and academic achievement at BME. His mandate includes the critical task of setting clear and ambitious performance expectations for the BME faculty members, further enhancing the institute’s commitment to academic excellence and cutting-edge discoveries.
As the Associate Director of Scientific Research, Dr. Simmons will oversee the comprehensive annual review processes, ensuring that each faculty member’s progress aligns seamlessly with the newly established performance benchmarks. Additionally, he will spearhead the promotion and appointment reviews, facilitating the advancement of deserving faculty members while upholding the institute’s rigorous standards.
Since joining BME in 2000, Dr. Simmons had participated in many roles involving administration and research progress. He is now serving as the Scientific Director at the Translational Biology and Engineering Program, at the Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research.
One of Dr. Simmons’ key objectives is to revitalize existing processes to reflect the revised performance expectations. He recognizes the importance of acknowledging the diverse range of successes that faculty members achieve, given the distinct flavours of achievement in various disciplines. Dr. Simmons is committed to devising innovative methods to celebrate these successes while embracing the rich tapestry of research diversity at BME.
